Since we moved from the International Community Centre to the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham we have seen a significant rise in people coming to Streetwise Opera workshops.
At the moment we are working on an opera called Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni, which also happens to be one of my favourite operas; it has in it the greatest intermezzo ever written.
It is truly inspiring to watch the new people slowly becoming part of our group and engaging in the musical and dramatic challenges we put before them. We have also noticed how the effect of having more new people has inspired the regulars to up their game.
We are developing our own shortened version of the Opera, writing our own lyrics to certain parts of it as well as our own lib, all from the ideas of the participants. Follow this link to hear the beautiful intermezzo from the Opera! I dare you to say that it does not stir you!
